Perth’s The Silents test the candy-floss pop boundaries with this haunting debut, Flicker And Flames. It’s a border-line concept album, hinting at a psychedelic-folk, ‘Ogden’s Nutgone Flake’-era Small Faces sound fused with a less eccentric The Coral. The album is drenched in minor key ballads and swinging 60s strings, but with the spirit of dark alleys in New Orleans under moonlight.
